Madras Motor Race Track receives a Rs. 20 crore upgrade

The Madras Motor Race Track (MMRT) near Chennai has been upgraded with new paddock facilities including two new pit complexes, garages and hospitality suites. The Madras Motor Sports Club (MMSC) has spent Rs. 20 crore on the year long project.

MMRT now has an upgraded pit lane with a newly constructed paddock building. 20 new pit garages have been added in addition to a spectator-viewing terrace and a set of VIP hospitality suites that can accommodate up to 400 people. A second paddock facility has been built on the western side of the track, which will allow MMSC to split the track and run two simultaneous races.

A new drag strip has also been constructed at MMRT. Additionally, MMSC also plans to construct a 7.5 km rally track at the facility. The plan is to start a driving academy that will be run by APRC champion Gaurav Gill.

MMSC has been upgrading the facilities in phases over the past few years. Earlier, the race control room had received new hardware. The track was also resurfaced and widened to meet FIA Grade-2 certification requirements.
