Mahindra mulls launching Peugeot scooters in India

Earlier this year, Mahindra completed all the necessary formalities to acquire a 51% stake in French two-wheeler manufacturer Peugeot Motorcycles (PMTC). Shortly after, we had reported that the company had imported six scooters into India. These scooters were spotted at the company's headquarters in Mumbai.

Now the company has revealed that it is looking at the possibility of introducing some scooter models in India. Among the models that are being considered, include the Metropolis - a three-wheeled scooter. The version imported to India is a 400 RS with a 399 cc, liquid-cooled engine that develops 37 bhp. It has dual-tilting front wheels for stability, a single hydraulic shock absorber at the front, dual shock absorbers at the rear and disc brakes. Other features include an adjustable windscreen, parking brake and daytime running lights. This variant, with all its features may not be economically viable for India and the company might consider launching it with a smaller engine.

Other models that were seen in India include the Django 125 Sport, Satelis 2 300i, Speedfight 3, Streetzone and Citystar. While the company has not revealed which models it will introduce in India, it is rumoured that the first three in the list will make it to our shores. However, the wait is expected to be a long one - at least one year.
