Mahindra Reva plans to launch its vehicles in Europe in 2016

Mahindra Reva is planning to start selling its electric vehicles in Europe in calendar year 2016.

According to Mahindra, the ecosystem for electric cars is growing. Europe accounts for 30% of the sales of electric cars in the world. The US and China have an equally large share. Japan accounts for 8-9%.

The company will export its cars as CBUs from India. The company does not believe that it will have to expand the production capacity of its manufacturing facility in Bengaluru. The plant can roll out 30,000 vehicles annually.

Mahindra Reva, which makes the E2O electric car, has not had much success selling its products in India. At present, the company has presence in eight major cities in India, where it sells its cars through Mahindra dealerships. It is looking to expand its presence in the country in the coming year.

According to Mahindra Reva, the success of an electric car is dependent on the local tax structure and the charging infrastructure. The Government of India launched the FAME - a scheme for the adoption and manufacture of electric and hybrid vehicles. Following this move, Mahindra Reva slashed the prices of the E20. Even after the price cut, the company has not been able to sell the car in significant numbers.
