Mahindra Thar 5-door SUV spied for the first time?

The 5-door version of the Thar is expected to be launched in 2023.

A test mule of what is believed to be the 5-door version of the Mahindra Thar has been spotted.

The spy images reveal three Thar prototypes, with two of them under covers. It's unclear from this angle if it's indeed the 5-door version. However, reports suggest that these test mules were visibly longer than the 3-door version parked next to them.

The 5-door version of the Thar is expected to be launched in 2023. It could get a few exterior design tweaks to differentiate it from the 3-door version. Mahindra is also said to be working on the suspension and steering to make the 5-door Thar more usable on a regular basis.

Under the bonnet, the Thar 5-door could use the same engines and transmissions as the 3-door variant. These include a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder mStallion petrol that produces 150 BHP and 320 Nm and a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel with 130 BHP and 320 Nm. The engines could be mated to either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic along with a four-wheel-drive system and a manual-shift transfer case.
