Mahindra Thar spotted with a traditional 7-slat grille

The 7-slat grille on this Mahindra Thar looks familiar.

A test mule of the new Mahindra Thar sporting a traditional 7-slat grille has been spotted. This grille is likely to be offered as an accessory. In addition to the 7-slat grille seen on this test car, Mahindra is also likely to offer a 5-slat version.

The new Mahindra Thar was unveiled last month. It gets a redesigned front grille which is different from the more traditional Jeep-inspired grille, but retains its circular headlamps and wide fenders.

The new Thar comes in two trim levels AX (Adventure Series) and LX (Lifestyle Series). The AX series comes with a fixed soft top, side facing seats, steel wheels, mechanical lockable differentials and a manual transmission. The LX Series gets a soft top or hard top and automatic transmission option for the diesel, while the petrol engine comes with an automatic transmission only.

The Thar comes with a choice of two engines. These include a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder mStallion petrol unit that produces 150 BHP and 320 Nm and a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel that makes 130 BHP and 320 Nm. Both engines are available with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. Four-wheel drive with a manual shift transfer case is standard across all variants.

The next-generation Mahindra Thar will be launched on October 2, 2020.
