Mahindra U301 product brand name to be revealed on July 30

Mahindra has announced that it will reveal the product brand name and share strategic updates about its upcoming sports utility vehicle, codenamed U301, on July 30, 2015.

The U301 is likely to be powered by the Quanto's 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder diesel engine that is capable of producing 100 BHP. This engine will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and the vehicle will come with a two-wheel drive configuration. An AMT version is also likely, while a four-wheel drive version may come at a later date.

The U301 is built on a new ladder frame chassis. It has a boxy design with a spare wheel mounted on the tail gate. Other features include swept-back clear lens headlamps with chrome accents, rectangular fog lamps, roof rails, and 5-spoke alloy wheels.

The interiors of the U301 will feature 7 seats and a modern-looking black dashboard with silver inserts, an integrated audio system with Bluetooth, USB and aux-in connectivity, air-conditioning and power windows. Safety features are likely to include airbags and ABS.

Mahindra plans to target at younger buyers in the rural market with the U301.
