Mahindra Verito EV spotted; launch this quarter

Last month, Mahindra revealed that it was planning to introduce the electric version of the Verito sedan in this fiscal. Now the car has been spotted on the roads, indicating that the launch may not be too far away.

Dubbed the Verito EV, the car was displayed at the 2012 and 2014 Auto Expo. Mahindra will initially place it in the taxi and commercial car-rental space according to M&M automotive & farm equipment sector executive director, Pawan Goenka.

According to Mahindra, the Verito EV's batteries take seven hours to charge fully. The car has a maximum range of 80 km and can attain a top speed of 85 kph.

The Verito EV will benefit from the Government of India's recently introduced Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid &) Electric Vehicles in India (FAME India) scheme, which provides incentives ranging between Rs. 11,000 and Rs. 1,38,000 on electric and hybrid vehicles over 4 metres in length.

The Verito EV will be one of Mahindra's nine launches scheduled for this fiscal year.
