Mahindra's latest 'born electric' SUVs, the BE 6 and XEV 9e, could get hybrid powertrain options in the future. According to a media report, the carmaker is planning to introduce range-extender hybrid versions in order to cater to a wider set of customers.
The BE 6 and XEV 9e electric SUVs are based on the brand's INGLO platform. This electric architecture will have to undergo significant re-engineering so that it can accommodate a hybrid powertrain.
The report states that the range-extender hybrid setup will feature a 1.2-litre petrol engine. It will function as a generator to recharge the battery, which in turn will power the electric motors.
Rival Maruti Suzuki is also working on an affordable range-extender hybrid powertrain for models such as the Fronx, Baleno and Swift.
