Mahindra XUV500 coming in 2024 as Hyundai Creta rival

The XUV500 will be making a return as a 5-seater crossover in 2024.

When Mahindra first announced the XUV700, the company said that the XUV500 would be discontinued temporarily. Now, it seems the badge won't be making a return until 2024.

If you're a fan of the XUV500, don't get disheartened, because according to a media report, the XUV500 will be making a return as a Hyundai Creta / Kia Seltos rival. Codenamed 'S301', it will be a 5-seater mid-size SUV that will be positioned between the XUV300 and XUV700.

The S301 project was supposed to be co-developed with Ford as part of their joint venture. Now, with the JV being called off, Mahindra has been forced to develop the vehicle on its own. Mahindra will likely use an extended version of its XUV300's platform, instead of the initially planned B772 platform from Ford. The new XUV500 SUV could measure around 4.2-4.3 meters in length.

The S301 is expected to be powered by a 1.5-litre diesel engine that will be upgraded to comply with BS6 Phase II emission regulations that will come into effect in 2023. The SUV is also likely to get a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine option.
