Maruti Alto 800: 15 months & 12,000 Km update

Steering has some weight unlike the Ignis and so Alto feels more connected to the road. Other car we use is a Punto which has one of the best HPS steerings.

BHPian KPR recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

15 months completed since I brought Alto home. ODO stands at ~12000 km. Car is running almost everyday for minimum 10km and maximum upto 50km with no issues. Some observations:

  • No rattles.
  • AC is a charm.
  • Steering returns to center  as it has a different setup I think.
  • Steering has some weight unlike Ignis and so Alto feels more connected to road. Other car we use is Punto which has one of the best HPS steering. So this feedback for Alto comes from our Punto experience.
  • Undulated road disturbs the car stability. Need to drive a bit slow there.
  • Despite above point suspension is quite satisfactory.
  • Gear box, clutch and engine combination is simply the best.
  • Gear box is so sharp and perfect slotting type is a delight to operate. No rubbery feel at all.
  • The small wheel base of Alto keeps the car so tight while driving in and out of traffic with some speed and accuracy.
  • With more and more electronics among cars sold in market today, I like this simple, no nonsense, robust mechanicals of Alto.

Other expenditure:

  • 10k km service was done in April 22. Costed me ₹2700 or so. No complaints with car and service as usual was great. MS is king when it comes to service.
  • I had installed an after market TPMS to monitor the tyre pressure. It costed me ₹2550 for internal / dashboard mounted type. Fitting charge was ₹500 at a nearby tyre shop.
  • Insurance renewed for own damage, zero dep and return to invoice as add ons at ₹5519.

I had installed a JVC KD-X472BT player (Costed me ₹6500 including installation). One of the best among single dins currently sold in market. 5 Phones can be connected via BT to stream music, 2 phones can be connected for talking via BT. Mic quality is excellent unlike Android players and some OEM players. Choice of Light colours, EQ settings, DTA settings, selecting HPF LPF to speakers and woofers and what not! True VFM player.
