Maruti Celerio gets CNG option

Maruti Suzuki has launched a CNG-powered version of the Celerio hatchback. The Celerio Green, as the car is known, is available only in VXi trim and cost Rs. 4.93 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai) or 4.68 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Launched in February at the Auto Expo, the Celerio has been a successful product for Maruti. The car commands a long delivery period, especially for the AMT version. The addition of the CNG version is bound to increase the car's appeal further as it will make it more economical to run.

The Celerio Green uses the same 998 cc, 3-cylinder engine as the petrol car. However, while the petrol unit puts out 67 bhp @ 6000 rpm and 90 Nm of torque @ 3500 rpm, the CNG-powered mill produces a considerably lower 58 bhp. The car is available only with the 5-speed manual gearbox. There is no news of the AMT unit from the petrol version being adopted. The company claims a fuel efficiency of 31.79 km/kg for the Celerio Green.

Maruti is also expected to launch the Celerio with a diesel engine in the current fiscal.
