Maruti: Diesel car costs can only be recovered in 2.6L km

Maruti has put up an advertisement promoting petrol cars. The ad says that buyers would have to drive 2.6 lakh km to recover the extra costs of a diesel car and asks users to calculate costs before making a decision.

Post the implementation of BS6 emission rules, Maruti discontinued all diesel cars. Diesel-only cars like the Vitara Brezza now come with a 1.5-litre petrol engine.

Prior to the implementation of BS6 emission rules, Maruti offered a 1.3-litre diesel and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. While the 1.5-litre engine was built in-house, the 1.3-litre engine was sourced from Fiat. They even had a 1.6-litre diesel on the S-Cross at one point.
