Maruti imports 7-seater YJC MPV for research and development

Maruti Suzuki has imported two units of the 7-seater MPV, codenamed YJC, for research and development purposes.

The import data indicates that one of the cars is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine, while the other one has a 1.3-litre diesel unit. While both engines are expected to be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, there are rumours that an automated manual transmission is likely to be offered as well.

It is believed that the YJC is based on the 7-seater version of the Wagon R concept that was showcased at Indonesia International Motor Show in 2013. The vehicle is longer than the regular Wagon R, but still measures less than four metres in length. The vehicle is expected to be positioned under the Ertiga in the company's MPV line-up and pitted against the Datsun Go+.

The YJC is expected to share most of its parts with the regular Wagon R.
