Maruti to increase AMT production to meet growing demand

Maruti Suzuki created quite a stir when it launched its first automated manual transmission-equipped earlier this year. The demand for the car was very high, but the limited supply of AMT units from Magneti Marelli meant that there was a long waiting period for deliveries. While the company has brought this waiting period down from 7-8 months to 3-4 months, it needs to ramp up the production of AMT units particularly since it plans to introduce the Alto K10 AMT in the market soon.

Maruti Suzuki has disclosed to Autocar Professional that it is working with Magneti Marelli to increase monthly AMT production from 3,500 to 5,000 units over the next two months. The company expects Magneti Marelli to further increase production once it sets up a manufacturing facility at Manesar, Haryana. This will be a crucial step since Maruti is planning to equip many more of its models with the technology.
