Maruti Suzuki Baleno launched in India at Rs. 4.99 lakh

Maruti Suzuki has launched the Baleno hatchback in India at a price of Rs. 4.99 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi).

The Baleno measures 3,995 mm in length, 1,745 mm in width and 1,500 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2,520 mm and a ground clearance of 170 mm. It features Maruti's "Liquid Flow" design language and comes with sweptback headlamps, a V-shaped honeycomb grille, an air dam with horizontal slats, blackened A, B and C-pillars, wraparound tail lamps and a roof-mounted rear spoiler. It has 339 litres of boot space and a 37 litre fuel tank and is available in 7 colours - Fire Red, Premium Urban Blue, Metallic Premium Silver, Autumn Orange, Ray Blue, Pearl Arctic White and Granite Grey. 

The Baleno is available in 4 trim levels - Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha. The top-of-the-line Alpha trim level gets features such as projector headlights, daytime-running lights, fog lamps, ORVMs with integrated turn-indicators, keyless entry & go, reverse parking camera, co-driver vanity lamp, automatic climate control, SmartPlay touchscreen audio with navigation and Apple CarPlay, auto dimming IRVM, telescopic steering and 16-inch alloy wheels shod with 195/55-R16 section tyres among others.

All trim levels come with central locking, dual airbags and ABS with EBD as standard.

The Baleno is available with a choice of two engines:

  • 1,197cc, 4-cylinder petrol (VVT), 83 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 115 Nm @ 4,000 rpm
  • 1,248cc, 4-cylinder diesel (190 DDiS), 74 BHP @ 4,000 rpm and 190 Nm @ 2,000 rpm

Both the engines are mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The petrol engine can be had with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) on the Delta trim level. The ARAI certified fuel efficiency figures of the Baleno for the petrol and diesel versions are 21.4 kpl and 27.39 kpl respectively.

The Baleno will be positioned above the Swift in Maruti's model line-up and sold through the company's NEXA dealership network. The car will be manufactured in India and exported to over 100 countries across the world including Japan.
