Maruti Suzuki working on Jimny for India

Maruti is reportedly working on a Jimny for India.

According to media reports, the fourth generation Suzuki Jimny is likely to be re-branded as the Gypsy in India. It could be launched sometime in 2020. It is rumoured to be manufactured at Maruti's Gujarat plant.

It has been reported that the Indian version could be based on the Jimny Sierra. Unlike the car sold in the international market, India is likely to get a 5-door version. The car's overall length is expected to be under 4-meters, while its wheelbase is expected to be 250 mm longer than the 3-door model. Moreover, the longer wheelbase is likely to affect its ramp break over angle.

In the international market, the Suzuki Jimny is offered with two petrol engine options, including a 660cc, 3-cylinder turbocharged unit and a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder naturally aspirated engine. It comes with a 4-speed automatic transmission with low range and all-wheel drive. Details about the Indian version are not yet known.
