Maruti Suzuki could setup fourth plant in South India

RC Bhargava, Chairman of Maruti Suzuki has said that if the company has to expand its production capacity, it would consider setting up a new plant in southern India as it would be closer to the market and would be beneficial for exports as well.

Maruti Suzuki currently has production facilities in Manesar and Gurgoan in Haryana and Hansalpur, Gujarat. The combined annual production capacity of the Manesar and Gurgaon plants is 15.5 lakh units. The company aims to double it by 2030. The Gujarat plant, owned by Suzuki, has a capacity of 2.5 lakh units per annum, which will be expanded to 7.5 lakh units per annum by 2020.

South India is fast emerging into a new auto hub. Brands like Kia and Hero MotorCorp are setting up plants in Andhra Pradesh, while Hyundai, Renault-Nissan and BMW have production facilities in Tamil Nadu.
