Maruti Suzuki showcases WagonR Flex-fuel prototype in Delhi

The Flex-fuel prototype operating E85 fuel will help reduce tailpipe emissions by 79% compared to the standard WagonR.

Maruti Suzuki has unveiled a flex-fuel prototype based on the WagonR at the SIAM Ethanol Technology Exhibition in New Delhi.

The Maruti WagonR Flex-fuel is said to be India’s first mass-market offering that can run on a 20-85% ethanol blended fuel. The car has been developed in-house at Maruti with support from Suzuki Motor Corporation, Japan.

According to reports, Maruti Suzuki has made quite a few changes to the WagonR’s engine. These include a revised engine management system, upgraded fuel pump, fuel injectors and other engine components. The engine also gets a new fuel system that comprises of a heated fuel rail and an ethanol sensor to detect the ethanol percentage.

According to Hisashi Takeuchi, MD & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, the WagonR Flex-fuel prototype operating E85 fuel will help reduce tailpipe emissions by 79% compared to the standard WagonR, while ensuring the same performance.
