Maruti Suzuki's Gujarat plant to get a new assembly line

Suzuki Motor Corporation is expected to invest 100 billion Yen (around $88 million) for adding a new assembly line at its Gujarat manufacturing plant. This information has been revealed through Nikkei, which is the stock market index for the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

Initial plans for the factory included an annual production capacity of 2.5 lakh units. However, with the fresh round of investment and new production line, Suzuki is expected to add an additional annual capacity of 2 lakh units. The Gujarat plant is Maruti Suzuki's third production facility in India, with the first two being located in Gurgaon and Manesar, in the state of Haryana. With the new production line at Gujarat, the automaker's cumulative annual capacity will likely be increased to 22.5 lakh units.

The Gujarat facility started operations in February 2017. Reports have indicated that the factory manufactured 4,000 units of the Baleno during its first month of operation, which was increased to 8,010 units in March.
