Mercedes-AMG GT3 revealed

The Mercedes-AMG GT3 race car has been officially unveiled. Based on the AMG GT super-car, the AMG GT3 has been designed to meet FIA GT3 specifications. However, while the road going AMG GT uses a new 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, the GT3 will borrow its engine from the SLS AMG GT3 i.e. a 6.3-litre, V8. Exact specifications are yet to be revealed. Transmission duties are carried out by a six-speed sequential racing gearbox.

The car uses an aluminium space-frame structure like the road car. In order to reduce the car's weight - the engine cover, doors, front wing, front and rear aprons, sidewalls, side skirts, diffuser, boot lid and rear aerofoil are all made from carbon-fibre.

On the inside, the car gets a carbon-fibre seat pan and a roll-over cage made from high-tensile steel. The car also features a new steering wheel with race-specific switchgear. While the German automaker has revealed the track version of the AMG GT, the road going car is expected to be launched in India in the second half of 2015.
