Mercedes-Benz Concept A sedan unveiled at Shanghai

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the Concept A Sedan, which previews a future production model that will likely be introduced as a head-on rival against the Audi A3 and the BMW 1-Series sedan. The concept will be showcased at the Shanghai Motor Show 2017.

The Concept A sedan measures 4,570 mm in length, 1,870 mm in width and 1,462 mm in height. It gets a coupe-like styling, similar to the company's current entry-level sedan - the CLA. The front fascia of the car gets a wide grille with vertical slats, similar to the one seen in the AMG GT R sportscar. The grille is flanked on both sides by trapezoidal-shaped headlight assemblies. The rear end gets wraparound LED taillights, a sharp kink on the edge of the boot lid and a number plate housing in the middle. The concept car also comes with a panoramic glass roof.

Mercedes hasn't mentioned anything about the concept car making it into production. However, speculations suggest that a production version of the Concept A sedan will be introduced in the international markets by the end of next year. It will be one of Mercedes' eight-model compact car portfolio. The production model is expected to come with 4-cylinder petrol and diesel powerplants, while an AMG-tuned model with over 400 BHP on tap hasn't been ruled out either.
