Mercedes-Benz EQE electric sedan unveiled

The new Mercedes-Benz EQE electric sedan will sit below the brand's flagship EQS offering and is said to go on sale in European and US markets sometime in 2023.

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the new EQE electric sedan at the 2021 IAA Mobility Show in Munich, Germany; alongside the debut of the EQG concept and the Maybach EQS Concept. The new Mercedes-Benz EQE electric sedan will sit below the brand's flagship EQS offering and is said to go on sale in European and US markets sometime in 2023.

The new Mercedes-Benz EQE, as the name suggests, is equivalent to the E-Class from the brand's ICE-powered lineup. The electric sedan carries forward a number of design elements from its larger EQS sibling. This includes the black panel at the front, in place of the grille, the smooth aerodynamic silhouette, the full-width LED lighting at the rear and the short overhangs at both the front and rear. The new Mercedes-Benz EQE also comes with standard 19-inch alloy wheels, with up to 21-inches offered as optional.

The EQE electric sedan measures 4,946 mm in length, which is 270 mm shorter than the EQS. However, at 3,120 mm the wheelbase is longer than the standard E-Class by 80 mm.

On the inside, the Mercedes-Benz EQE looks very similar to its EQS sibling. The new electric sedan also features Mercedes' 'Hyperscreen infotainment system', which runs along the entire dashboard integrating three screens; the instrument cluster, the central touchscreen unit and an additional display for the front passenger.

Powering the new Mercedes-Benz EQE electric sedan is a 90.6 kWh battery pack sending power to a single electric motor at the rear (RWD). The electric powertrain is capable of producing 288 BHP and 530 Nm. Mercedes-Benz is said to introduce a 4MATIC variant at a later stage.

The EQE electric sedan claims to offer a maximum range of 660 km on a single charge (WLTP cycle). The batteries are also able to charge from 10 - 80 percent in just 31 minutes, using a DC fast charger.
