Mercedes-Benz EQG concept SUV globally unveiled

The new EQG concept previews the brand's all-electric G-Class SUV, which is said to enter production in the coming years.

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the EQG concept at the 2021 IAA Mobility Show in Munich, Germany. The new EQG concept previews the brand's all-electric G-Class SUV, which is said to enter production in the coming years.

The new Mercedes-Benz EQG is a near-production version, carrying forward a number of body panels from the current-generation ICE-powered G-Class. However, the concept does feature a number of EQ design elements, including the covered grille and a two-tone colour scheme.

The new EQG concept also features LED light bars on the roof, illuminated side guards, uniquely designed 22-inch alloy wheels, updated front and rear bumper design and a square-shaped storage space on the tailgate, in place of the spare wheel.

The Mercedes-Benz EQG concept is underpinned by the same ladder-frame chassis as the standard ICE-powered G-Wagon. It comes with independent front suspension and a rigid rear axle, offering the same off-roading capabilities as its fossil-fuel powered sibling.

The German luxury carmaker is yet to unveil the specifications of the EQG. However, they have mentioned that the all-electric G-Class will come with a standard 4x4 drive system, with a 2-speed transmission offering low and high-range gearing.
