Mercedes-Benz GLB SUV with up to 7 seats unveiled

Mercedes has unveiled the GLB compact SUV. The car offers a 3rd row for 2 occupants up to 1.68 m in height.

The GLB measures 4,634 mm long, 1,834 mm wide and 1,658 mm tall. The 7-seater measures 1,662 mm in height. The wheelbase is 2,829 mm (100 mm more than the B-Class) and the luggage space is rated at 560 – 1,755 liters (5-seater).

On the outside, the car gets short overhangs at the front & rear, LED headlamps, twin-slat chrome grille and a silver skid plate. The window line raises up at the C-pillar. The GLB has a straight roof and roof rails. At the back, it gets dual tone bumpers with dual exhaust vents, roof spoiler with integrated HMSL, and LED tail lights.

Inside, the GLB gets two screens for the instrument cluster and the infotainment system, circular AC vents and a 3-spoke multi-function steering wheel. The middle row seats can move 140 mm fore and aft, and gets a 40:60 split option. The backrest gets a 40:20:40 split. The optional 3rd row consists of retractable seats for 2 occupants with cup holders between the seats. The seats sit flush with the floor when folded. The third row gets side window airbags, ISOFIX and top-tether anchors.

The GLB will be powered by four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. The petrol units are a 1.3-liter engine rated at 161 BHP / 250 Nm in the GLB 200 and a 2.0-liter engine developing 221 BHP / 350 Nm in the GLB 250 4MATIC. The engines are paired to 7 and 8-speed dual-clutch transmissions respectively. The diesel is a 2.0-liter unit developing 148 BHP / 320 Nm in the GLB 200 d and GLB 200 d 4MATIC. The engine develops 187 BHP / 400 Nm in the GLB 220 d 4MATIC. The diesel variants get an 8-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
