Mercedes-Benz S-Class CKD launch on October 7

The CKD version will be a lot cheaper, however, the made-in-India car is expected to miss out on a few features.

As expected, Mercedes-Benz is gearing up to launch the made-in-India S-Class this month. The CKD version of the luxury sedan will go on sale on October 7, 2021.

The W223 S-Class was launched in India in June this year. Until now, the car was imported as a completely built unit (CBU) and was priced at Rs. 2.17 crore (ex-showroom). The CKD version will be a lot cheaper, however, the made-in-India car is expected to miss out on a few features.

The CKD version is likely to get 19-inch alloy wheels instead of the fancy 20-inch rims. It is said that the made-in-India car will not have rear-axle steering.

When it comes to creature comforts, the CKD version will miss out on the front seat massage function, while the Burmester 4D sound system will be replaced with a 3D Burmester unit.

At present, the S-Class is offered with two engine options - a 3.0-litre, 6-cylinder petrol that produces 362 BHP and 500 Nm as well as a 3.0-litre, 6-cylinder diesel that puts out 282 BHP and 600 Nm. The CKD version is likely to get a rear-wheel-drive S350d variant.
