MG Astor to get AI assistant & Level 2 autonomous tech

The MG Astor will be the first mid-size crossover to offer Level 2 ADAS. It is expected to be launched this festive season.

MG Motor India has announced that the upcoming Astor will be equipped with a segment-first AI assistant and Level 2 autonomous technology.

Astor's personal AI assistant has been designed by US-based Start Design. The interactive robot is said to depict human-like emotions and voices and can give information about various topics via Wikipedia.

The Astor is the first car to get MG's Concept of Car-as-a-Platform (CAAP) software. It offers personalized services using technologies like Blockchain, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence. It also offers services like maps, MapMyIndia navigation and Jio connectivity via a Jio e-SIM.

The Astor will be equipped with Level 2 autonomous technology. It uses mid-range radars and cameras and offers features such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Departure Prevention, Intelligent Headlamp Control (IHC), Rear Drive Assist (RDA) and Speed Assist System amongst others.

The SUV is likely to be offered with two petrol engine options. These include a 1.5-litre unit producing 118 BHP and 150 Nm and a 1.3-litre turbocharged engine with 161 BHP and 230 Nm. Expect it to come with a choice of manual and automatic transmissions.
