MG Astor revealed; set to take on the Hyundai Creta

The Astor will be positioned below the Hector and will have the Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq and the upcoming VW Taigun in its sights.

MG has taken the wraps off the Astor, which is set to take on the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and the Skoda Kushaq in the Indian market. The SUV will go on sale in October this year.

The Astor will be positioned below the Hector in MG's line-up. It measures 4.3 meters in length, which is slightly shorter than Hector SUV. In terms of design, the Astor looks similar to the ZS EV. It gets a different grille, a redesigned front bumper, and new headlamp clusters with integrated LED daytime running lights. The SUV rides on 17-inch alloy wheels.

On the inside, the Astor gets a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system that comes with a Jio e-SIM. The car also gets an AI-based personal assistant. Other features include a panoramic sunroof, heated ORVMs, automatic climate control, rain-sensing wipers, 6-way electrically adjustable driver seat and a 7-inch digital instrument cluster.

The Astor comes equipped with Level-2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). These include features like Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure Prevention and Speed Assist.

The new MG Astor is offered with two petrol engine options, including a 1.5-litre unit that puts out 108 BHP and 144 Nm and a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine that makes 138 BHP and 220 Nm. The former comes with either a manual transmission or an 8-step CVT. The 1.3-litre unit gets a 6-speed automatic transmission.
