MG could launch a sub-Rs. 20 lakh EV in India by 2023

With a new sub-Rs. 20 lakh EV, MG could take on the popular Tata Nexon EV.

MG Motor India could launch its second all-electric model in India in the next 2 years. According to President and MD Rajeev Chaba, the new model could be priced below Rs. 20 lakh.

At present, MG offers the ZS EV in India, which competes with the Hyundai Kona. The car uses an electric motor that has an output of 141 BHP and 353 Nm. It is powered by a 44.5 kWh lithium-ion battery that is said to have a maximum range of up to 419 km.

The lithium-ion battery can be charged to 100% of its capacity in 6-8 hours using an AC charger and to 80% in 50 minutes using a 50 kW DC fast charger. The carmaker has sold around 3,000 units of the ZS EV in India.
