MG Gloster engine details out; to get 2.0L twin-turbo diesel

The Gloster to get a twin-turbo diesel engine & 8-speed AT combination.

Earlier this week, we reported that Gloster SUVs have started arriving at dealerships.

It was speculated that MG could use a Fiat sourced 2.0 diesel engine in a higher state of tune for the Gloster, but a media report reveals that the SUV will be powered by an in-house 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel engine instead. The same engine powers the Maxus D90 in the international market.

The 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, twin-turbo diesel produces 215 BHP and 480 Nm. It is expected to be paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox that will come with paddle shifters. The same engine, albeit in a lower state of tune, could also be offered in the Hector in 2022.

MG has also released a teaser video of the Gloster showcasing some of its features. The SUV will come with Level 1 autonomous driving capability. The SUV also gets Automatic Parking Assist, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment head-unit with voice commands, panoramic sunroof and an automatic tailgate.

The MG Gloster is a re-badged version of the Maxus D90 sold in the Chinese market. It is expected to be imported as a completely knocked down (CKD) unit and assembled at MG's Halol plant. The SUV will compete with the Ford Endeavour, Toyota Fortuner and the Mahindra Alturas G4 in the Indian market. It is scheduled to be launched this Diwali.
