Mitsubishi to re-evaluate Indian operations, says CEO

Mitsubishi will soon be re-evaluating its Indian operations, as per an indication from the company's CEO - Carlos Ghosn. The company might enter the country through a stand-alone arm, which will help it to develop and market products specifically for the Indian customers.

Mitsubishi has been present in the Indian market for a fairly long time. It was previously in a partnership with Hindustan Motors, which was responsible for importing or building specific models of the Japanese carmaker. These products included the Pajero, Lancer and the Outlander. However, since the company wasn't directly present in the country, it wasn't able to act quickly to changing market preferences and couldn't establish a connection with its customers. This resulted in unsatisfactory sales and a minuscule market share.

Since Mitsubishi has now been acquired by the Renault-Nissan alliance, it will be relooking into its Indian operations. The alliance head, Carlos Ghosn, claimed that India is a growing market and is thus an important country for every carmaker. He has also indicated that the Renault Kwid's CMF-A platform will also be open for use by Mitsubishi, thus pointing towards the possibility of a Mitsubishi small car built specifically for growing markets like India. However, since the company will need to re-evaluate its strategy from scratch and even build new models to attract Indian customers, this complete process is expected to take a significant time period.
