The Mumbai police have deployed two Interceptor vehicles on the Mumbai Coastal Road after citizens complained about supercars racing down the 10 km stretch between Marine Drive and Worli.
According to reports, high-end supercars, including Ferraris and Lamborghinis have been spotted driving erratically on the coastal road on weekends. They not only violate speed restrictions but also cause a disturbance in designated silence zones around the Breach Candy Hospital. The interceptor vehicles will monitor traffic and enforce the speed limit, set at 80 km/h on straight sections and 60 km/h in tunnels.
Anil Kumbhare, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), said, "Currently, the coastal road is not entirely covered by Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras. Once it is, we will be able to take immediate action against violators. Until then, these interceptor vehicles will help curb speeding on this stretch."
