Mumbai racer tops standings after Round Two of VW Polo R Cup

Each round includes two races that take place during the weekend.

After two rounds and four races of this year’s Volkswagen Polo R Cup, the drivers’ standing saw a new leader in Mumbai lad Mihir Dharkar with 77 points (shown in 3rd position in the picture alongside).

He is closely followed by Ameya Walavalkar at 76 points in second position. A. Sandeep Kumar (Chennai), Race 1 winner Avdumber Hede (Goa) and Rahil Noorani (Mumbai) are placed third, fourth and fifth with 73, 71 and 67 points respectively. Donovan Vaz finishes the top 6 with 66 points.

With only 11 points separating the top 6, this race season is already turning out to be highly competitive.

Each round includes two races that take place during the weekend. The winner is awarded the maximum score of 30, followed by 24 for second place and 20 for third place.

Race Summary

In the first race of round two at the Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore, Ameya led from start to finish winning the race. He won the pole position ahead of Sandeep and comfortably stayed ahead till the chequered flag, ahead of Rahil and Mihir who also finished on the podium.

Race two saw some drama as intitial winner Diego Duez, who lead from pole to finish, was penalised 20 seconds for jumping the start. This allowed second placed Donovan Vaz to move up as race winner, his first podium. He was joined by Sandeep and Ameya on the podium.

Round three will unfold at the Madras Motor Sports Club in Chennai on August 25 and 26, 2012.
