Mumbai: Vehicle sales drop by 32% this Dhanteras

Car sales were down by 13%, while 39% fewer 2-wheelers were sold this Dussehra.

The festive season is that time of the year when we witness a boost in vehicle sales. However, this year, things are different. According to a media report, vehicle sales in Mumbai have dropped by up to 32% this Dhanteras compared to last year.

According to the vehicle registration data, 2,447 cars and 6,237 bikes were booked in the city a fortnight before Dhanteras. This shows that car sales have dropped by 12%, while 2-wheeler sales have been down 32%.

A similar trend was seen during Dussehra. Car sales were down by 13%, while 39% fewer 2-wheelers were sold compared to the previous year.

Rising fuel prices are said to be one of the reasons for the dismal sales. In the last one and a half years, petrol prices have risen by 51%, while diesel has gone up 60%.
