My Mahindra Thar petrol AT's real-world fuel efficiency figures

I guess one can eke it out to 12 km/l by driving at 80-90 km/h.

BHPian shankar.balan recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

On Fuel Efficiency and suchlike matters ref my Thar Petrol HT AT.

Yesterday my friend and I travelled around 300 km. Just our golf bags and a couple of small bags and soft suitcases.

Left home at 5:30 am via NICE Road to the Mysore Expressway which starts just after the turnout.

And went past a couple of diversions Maddur and Mandya etc. Hit Columbia Asia Manipal Hospital Mysore. Right turn to Hunsur/ Yelwal and onto Coorg. Just one stop along the way for breakfast past Periyapatna at 09:00 and were at the Ainmane Coffee shop in Madikeri at 10:00.

Then some back and forth around the golf course and all - up and down some hilly terrain and undulations with some roundabouts etc and back.

The whole highway drive was done at 100-110 km/h at the very max. Cruise control on most of the time. Less traffic being a weekday hence smooth travel.

The odo was at 17,995 km when we left Bangalore. This morning just now I filled up 27.54 litres. It is at 18,295 km at the time of filling now. This means an average fuel consumption of 10.89 km/l on this drive, which I believe is pretty reasonable. I guess one can eke it out to 12 km/l by driving at 80-90 km/h. But then the joy of the petrol ‘whoosh’ will be sorely missed.

As you can see from the pics attached, during the drive along the highway the vehicle registered 12.7 km/l and all on the digital readout. This came down to 11.2 or so when in the hills.

But the real tank-to-tank average on the way out is around 11 km/l.

Now let me use the vehicle again today whole day and tomorrow to drive back to Bangalore and fill up in Bangalore to see what fuel efficiency I actually get.
