My Skoda Kylaq fuel efficiency review: Real-world mileage after 3000 km

Interestingly, the Sports mode is not only more fun to drive, but it improved fuel efficiency, although insignificantly - at the least it did not lower it!

Fuel Efficiency:

I have been driving Kylaq Signature AT for a couple of months now - clocked ~3000km till now.

I wanted to share the fuel efficiency numbers for reference.

I only fill HP Power95 or IOC XP95 petrol, full tank till auto cut-off, always! I don't think the 95 Octane fuel makes a huge difference in the fuel efficiency, but it definitely makes the engine considerably smoother and may be, more peppy!

  1. Heavy City Traffic with average speed of 11-13 kmph: 8-9 kmpl
  2. Moderate City Traffic with average speed of 17-20kph: 11 kmpl
  3. State Highways with heavy traffic and average speed of 50-54 kmph: 13-14 kmpl
  4. National Highways with moderate traffic and average speed of 70-80 kmph: 18 kmpl

Interestingly, the Sports mode is not only more fun to drive, but it also improved fuel efficiency, although insignificantly - at the least, it did not lower it!

The overall fuel efficiency seems acceptable to me for a Turbo, TC combination of a car.

I have a theory that any petrol car above 100hp and automatic gearbox (TC/CVT/DCT) would give fuel efficiency in a similar ballpark - OK, DCT ones might be more fuel efficient by 1-2kmpl, but the downside would be jerky operation and heating concerns. The fuel efficiency numbers are going to go down as ethanol blending increases, which may be due to the lower energy density of the ethanol.
