My used 2013 Honda CBR250R: Service & other updates

The bike hasn't seen any major miles in the last year as a big brother joined the garage for highway trips.

BHPian swiftnfurious recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

No major news. Had a fall from the bike a few months back, a few panels were chipped, and one of the rearview mirrors broke as it was a low-speed fall. Had left it for service at Motodynamics but somehow I felt it wasn't right when I received the bike back. It was straining too much beyond 80 km/h and hence looked for a CBR specialist and was pointed to 'Kingston' who is a Honda specialist and owns a CBR 250 himself. Left the bike with him and most things were sorted.

I still feel it's not as tight as I'd like and some noise from the chain area but the bike is eager till 100 km/h and goes a little more. I haven't had a chance to push it in free highways yet but happy with the power on tap.

Likes about Kingston:

  • Honest & down to earth
  • Takes only one bike at a time
  • He works on the bike himself, no assistants
  • Only bare minimum replacements as required keep upfront about the changes
  • Very reasonable labour rates

What can be better:

  • Too far for me (he is near Maduravoyal)
  • Takes a little time and no same-day delivery in most cases
  • No hi-fi gadgets / equipments (adds to the effort / time)

Current ODO: 49,451 kms

The bike hasn't seen any major miles in the last year as a big brother joined the garage for highway trips. I didn't sell the CBR for a few reasons:

  • Still a soft spot in my heart
  • The thing is FUN-TO-RIDE !!
  • Size (engine & bike) is a beautiful compromise for city & highway
  • Poor re-sale which means, I have to spend more money if I have to purchase a scooter for city runs, with actually no benefits over the CBR

I'll still hold on to it till I am in TN - might change my mind to sell it only if it's too much of a pain in case of a transfer to another city.

Got a puncture and got it fixed at home by a mobile puncture mechanic. Was done in flat 10 mins and Rs. 150/-.

PS: The best mechanic for CBR from my experience is still Karthik (Highlander, Bangalore, ex Tansi Honda). He's expensive, goes a little overboard with replacements, but the bike comes back as a beauty the way it runs !! I might ride to Bangalore for a service at his place to sort out everything and bring back the bike only for regular service / replacements that can be done in Chennai after that.
