Next-gen Honda HR-V spied in Japan

The HR-V could take on the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Hector and the Tata Harrier in India.

Spy images of the next-generation Honda HR-V have surfaced online. The mid-size SUV is scheduled to be unveiled in Japan by the end of this year.

The new HR-V, which is also known as the Vezel in some markets, is likely to get a completely new design. It appears to be slightly larger than the outgoing model. The front fascia has been redesigned and features slim LED headlamps, while the rear gets slim wraparound tail lamp clusters. The rear door handles are located on the C-pillars just like the outgoing model.

Media reports suggest that Honda is looking to enter the mid-size SUV market in India with the HR-V. The car could be positioned between the WR-V and the CR-V. It could compete with the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Hector and the Tata Harrier.

While HR-V sold in the international market could be powered by a 1.0-litre, turbo petrol engine, the Indian version could use a 1.5-litre diesel unit.
