Next-gen Maruti Celerio leaked!

The next-gen Celerio is expected to be based on the fifth-generation Heartect platform.

Patent images of the next-generation Maruti Celerio have leaked online. We have seen camouflaged test mules of the car before, but these patent drawings reveal a lot more.

The new Celerio seems to be a tad bit larger than the outgoing model. However, its overall design is more of an evolution than a revolution. At the front, we have a familiar fascia albeit with reshaped headlamps, grille and a new bumper. The reprofiled rear end features new tail lamp clusters and bumper.

The next-gen Celerio is expected to be based on the fifth-generation Heartect platform, which explains why the car looks larger in the spy images. The wheels also seem to be a size bigger giving it a raised stance.

The car could be offered with the same set of engines as before. It could get the 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol producing 75 BHP and 90 Nm, while higher variants could be offered with the 1.2-litre K-Series motor that puts out 83 BHP and 113 Nm. Transmission options are likely to include a 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT.

The new Celerio will compete with the Tata Tiago and Hyundai Santro in the Indian market.
