Next-gen Maruti Swift Hybrid spotted in India

The next-generation Maruti Suzuki Swift has been spotted in India. The car is a hybrid and is likely to begin its road trials in India in the near future.

The new Swift was first showcased in Japan in December 2016 and later made its global debut at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. It is based on a new HEARTECT platform which it shares with the Baleno. The car gets a redesigned exterior with the front end featuring a large hexagonal grille and sweptback headlights on either side. The front bumper gets a sculpted air dam and houses circular fog lights. It gets blackened A and B-pillars. The rear door handle has been integrated into the C-pillar, which give it a two-door coupe-like appearance. The rear features wraparound LED tail lights.

On the inside, the new Swift gets a redesigned dashboard with a large infotainment screen in the centre, a three-spoke, multi-function steering wheel and twin-pod instrument cluster.

The Swift Hybrid is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine which produces 89 BHP. The engine is paired with a 10 kW electric motor, which drives the front wheels through a 5-speed automated manual transmission (AMT). Suzuki claims that the Swift Hybrid can achieve a mileage of 32 km/l.

The next-gen Swift is expected to be unveiled in India at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo. It is unclear whether Maruti will offer the hybrid version in of the car in the country.
