Next-gen SsangYong Rexton revealed

SsangYong has officially revealed the next-gen Rexton. The SUV is expected to make its global premiere at the upcoming Seoul Motor Show. The Rexton is SsangYong's flagship SUV moniker. It is expected to go on sale in most international markets by the end of this year.

The new Rexton derives its design cues from the LIV-2 concept that was showcased at the Paris Motor Show last year. The most notable changes made to the production-spec model include a toned down front bumper and black body cladding. The new Rexton is 4,850 mm long, 1,920 mm wide and 1,800 mm tall. It has a wheelbase of 2,864 mm.

The interior design has also been inspired from that of the LIV-2 concept. While the cabin layout has been retained, the production model gets a dual-tone dashboard, instead of the all-white treatment found on the concept. Some wood accents have also been added on the passenger side, while the large 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment display mounted on top of the center console is expected to come with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and 3D Around View Monitoring (AVM).

Official details about the powertrain options on offer with the new Rexton haven't been revealed. However, it is expected to come equipped with a 2.0-litre petrol and a 2.2-litre diesel engine.

In India, the next-gen Rexton will likely be sold under the Mahindra brand name. The India-spec model will come with some cosmetic tweaks, including a new Mahindra-family grille. It will be launched to compete against the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and the upcoming Skoda Kodiaq.
