The next-generation Tata Harrier and Safari are already under development. More details of the upcoming SUVs, known internally as the Taurus and Leo, respectively, have now emerged online.
According to a media report, the next-gen Harrier and Safari will move away from the Land Rover D8 platform and will be based on a new architecture. The new “flexible” architecture is said to be similar to Mahindra’s NFA platform. It will support both internal combustion and electric powertrains and will have all-wheel drive capability.
The new-gen SUVs will also be slightly larger than the current models. Reports suggest that the overall length will go up by around 100-200 mm.
As far as engines are concerned, the new Harrier and Safari will be powered by an upgraded version of the 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine sourced from Stellantis. Both SUVs will also be offered with the new 1.5-litre direct injection turbo-petrol engine.
For the electric versions, Tata Motors is said to have partnered with Chinese brand Desay to develop a new electrical architecture.
Besides the next-gen Harrier and Safari, Tata Motors is also working on a new compact SUV codenamed Scarlet.
