Next-gen Wrangler to be an EV & offer better off-road capabilities

The next-gen Jeep Wrangler EV will be based on Stellantis' large-STLA architecture.

According to media reports, Jeep CEO Christian Meunier has confirmed that the next-generation Wrangler off-roader will come with a pure-electric powertrain.

Jeep already has an electrified version of the off-roader in the form of the Wrangler 4xe. Meunier stated that in the first quarter, 38% of all Wranglers sold were the 4xe models. He added that by the year-end, Jeep expects this percentage to go up to 50 - 60%. The company boss mentioned that customers aren't being forced to purchase the 4xe variant; instead, they are themselves realising that they can visit the petrol station less by driving the off-roader in electric mode for up to 20-25 miles (up to 40 km).

Speaking about its off-road capabilities, Meunier explained that Jeep will push the next-gen Wrangler EV's Trail Rating to 12 out of 10; meaning it will be even more capable off-road than its current ICE-powered version.

The next-gen Jeep Wrangler EV will be based on Stellantis' large-STLA architecture. Reports state that the Wrangler EV is expected to make its debut by 2027 at the earliest.
