The National Green Tribunal has sent a notice to the Government of India asking it to ban the manufacture and sale of Volkswagen cars in India. Volkswagen cars were found to be flouting the prescribed emission norms in the country due  to which, the German manufacturer has had to recall about 3.24 lakh diesel cars of the Volkswagen, Skoda and Audi makes.

In the notice issued to the Ministry of Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Central Pollution Control Board and the Volkswagen Group, the NGT has asked for a reply by December 23.
