NHAI to give out FASTags free of cost

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will be offering FASTags free of cost and also waive off the security deposit to encourage owners to switch to the electronic payment system.

The NHAI has set up point of sale (PoS) at several toll plazas across India to give out FASTags. These will be available for free till December 1, 2019. Besides, FASTags can also be purchased at PoS established by banks.

FASTags will be mandatory from December 1, 2019. It has been reported that more than 90% of 537 toll plazas have been equipped with the electronic toll collection (ETC) system infrastructure.

The toll plazas will also have a hybrid lane to allow cash transactions for heavy-duty vehicles. Vehicle owners entering the ETC lane without a FASTag will have to pay twice the toll fee.
