Nissan GT-R turns 50

The Nissan GT-R sports car has turned 50 this year.

The first-generation of the car (KPGC10) was launched in February 1969. Over the years, the GT-R has become one of the most iconic names in the industry. Till the fifth-generation, the car used the Skyline brand name. The sixth-generation of the car was unveiled in 2007 and has been on sale since.

To commemorate the 50th anniversary, Nissan built a special edition of the current GT-R. It is available in two variants - Premium and Track Edition and is powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre V6 engine. In the Premium variant the engine produces 557 BHP and 633 Nm, while in the Track Edition, it produces 592 BHP and 652 Nm. The engine is paired to a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Nissan has also released two videos showing production versions of all cars as well as clips of some GT-Rs used in motorsport. The videos can be viewed here and here.
