Nissan starts testing e-Power technology in India

Nissan has started testing its e-Power technology in India. Daniele Schillaci - Nissan Motor Co-Executive Vice-President of global sales and marketing told the media that e-Power equipped vehicles are currently being tested in India, Indonesia and Thailand.

A test mule of the Nissan Note was recently spotted in Chennai. Although, it didn't have the 'e-Power' badges, the test car is suspected to be powered by Nissan's range-extender technology.

In Japan, the Note e-Power comes with a 1.2-litre petrol engine which produces 78 BHP and 103 Nm. The engine is paired with a power generator, inverter and an electric motor that has an output of 108 BHP and produces 254 Nm of torque. The engine is only used to charge the battery which powers the electric motor, which in-turn drives the front wheels.

Schillaci has also confirmed that the all-electric Nissan Leaf is also being evaluated for the Indian market. The new Leaf uses a 40-kWh battery that powers an electric motor with an output of 140 BHP. Unlike the Note e-Power which comes equipped with a range-extender, the Leaf is a plug-in electric car.
