No successor planned for the Mitsubishi Pajero / Montero

The Mitsubishi Pajero / Montero has been one of the most recognizable names in the Japanese automaker's portfolio. While Mitsubishi did confirm that they are driving focus away from sedans and directing it towards crossovers and SUVs, it looks like the full sized Pajero will not be a part of those plans.

Osamu Masuko, Mitsubishi Motors' Chairman and CEO said the company has no plans for a successor model in any market because of fuel economy concerns. The current Pajero (also called the Shogun in certain markets) will continue to be sold in its current generation for now, even though it's over a decade old already. It is important to note that the model in question is the full sized Pajero / Montero and not the recently unveiled all-new Pajero Sport, which sits lower in Mitsubishi's model line-up.

Like the Pajero, even the Lancer and Galant sedans will not get successors, with the company stating it doesn't have the resources to develop one by itself.
