The naming nomenclature derives its origin from Sanskrit -an ancient language of the Indian subcontinent. The word 'Kushak' denotes 'King' or 'Emperor'. Further, the anointment with 'K' at the very start and 'Q' at the very end is in keeping with the tradition of the Skoda SUV family - Kodiaq, Karoq, and Kamiq.

Skoda has christened its new midsized SUV, as the 'Kushaq'. This is the first vehicle designed and developed under the purview of the 'India 2.0' project. It is the production version of the Vision IN Concept that was displayed at the 2020 Auto Expo.

The Kushaq will be based on the locally developed Modulare Querbaukasten (MQB) A0 IN platform. The SUV could be powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 148 BHP and 250 Nm. This engine could be offered with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Lower variants could get a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine mated with a 6-speed manual gearbox.

Skoda plans to introduce a series of vehicles over the next 18 months for the domestic market as well as other emerging markets.
