Range Rover Velar confirmed, to be unveiled on March 1

Land Rover has confirmed a new model in its Range Rover line-up. Called the Velar, this new mid-size luxury SUV will slot between the Range Rover Evoque and the Range Rover Sport.

This will mark the launch of the fourth product in the Range Rover lineup. The name Velar has been derived from the Latin word velare, which means to veil or cover. This name was first used by Land Rover in the 1960s in order to hide the true identity of the 26 pre-production Range Rover models.

The initial images released by the automaker ahead of the SUV's official unveiling indicate that the Range Rover Velar will be slightly bigger than the Evoque and will come with a large panoramic sunroof. The overall design language is similar to what is currently seen on other Range Rover models, though the Velar appears to get relatively smoother character lines.

Details about the powertrain, variants and features on offer with the Range Rover Velar will be revealed at its global premiere on March 1, 2017.
