Renault to increase Kwid production by 50%

Renault has tasted success in the entry-level hatchback segment after it launched the Kwid in September. The company has got 75,000 bookings for the car, which is priced at Rs. 2.57 - 3.53 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Renault had not anticipated such a strong demand and the waiting period for the car has risen to over six months.

To meet the demand, the French carmaker is planning to increase production of the Kwid by 50% over the coming months. According to vendors associated with the company, Renault is looking to roll out 8,000- 10,000 units of the car every month by February-March. At present, it is producing 5,000-6,000 units per month.

Renault is likely to sell over 1 lakh units of the Kwid in 2016 if the demand remains strong. In 2015, the company hopes to cross the 50,000 sales mark with the Kwid accounting for 10,000-15,000 units.

This Kwid is powered by an 800cc, 3-cylinder petrol engine that produces 53 BHP and 72 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 5-speed gearbox. Its rivals include the Maruti Suzuki Alto and Hyundai Eon.
